Welcome to the heart of your home—the bathroom! It’s the space we use the most, and let’s face it, keeping it smelling fresh can be a bit of a puzzle. As a self-proclaimed clean freak, I’m always on the lookout for easy and budget-friendly ways to maintain a pleasant aroma in my bathroom. Lucky for you, I’ve got some bathroom freshness tips and fantastic ideas using items you already have in your cupboards. There is no need for a trip to the store!
Scented Candle and Fabric Softener:
Transform your bathroom into a fragrant haven by trying this simple trick. Place a candle in a cup-shaped holder and add fabric softener. Next, place the candle in the holder. When you light the candle, the heat will release a delightful aroma, turning your bathroom into a scented paradise.
2. SHAVING CREAM FOR THE FLOOR:

Using shaving cream to clean bathroom floors is a viral cleaning hack specifically designed to neutralize stubborn urine odors that linger around the base of the toilet.
To effectively deodorize your bathroom, apply a generous layer of inexpensive, foam-based shaving cream (ensure it is foam, not gel) directly onto the floor tiles and grout lines.
Use a scrub brush or a dedicated cleaning cloth to spread the foam, allowing the active surfactants and light fragrance to penetrate the porous grout where smells are often trapped.
Let the shaving cream sit for at least 15 to 20 minutes to fully break down odor-causing bacteria, then simply wipe it away with a damp mop or microfiber cloth. This unconventional bathroom cleaning tip not only leaves your floors smelling fresh and clean but also acts as a powerful DIY grout cleaner without the need for harsh chemical odors.
3. SCENTED SOAPS DEODORIZER
Did you know that scented soaps can make a huge difference in your bathroom? Simply place fragrant soaps on a soap holder and leave them on the sink.
Use your decorative skills to make it look beautiful. The aroma will circulate in the bathroom, making it smell the way it should.
4. TOILET BRUSH DISASTER
Who would even consider washing a toilet brush? Toilet brushes are filthy, not to mention the aroma they secretly carry. The point is that toilet brushes are one of the main reasons bathrooms smell.
To treat the odor, pour Pine-Sol into the brush holder and set the brush in it. Bonus tip: Liquid bleach will also hide a toilet brush odor. Either way, your bathroom will smell much better.
5. LEMONS IN THE BOWL

Lemons are a familiar name in any home. We all know how to use a lemon in our bathrooms to clean the shower and the faucets. Lemons are also great in the kitchen when cooking. You can use a lemon to remove the scent of fish, and that’s one of the worst scents.
If it can do all of that, then it’s going to help you with the stinky odor in your bathroom. Cut a lemon into two pieces and place them in your toilet bowl.
The lemon will work as an odor eliminator whenever the toilet is flushed. Here is another piece of good news. The lemon will prevent limescale from building up in the bowl. Replace the lemon twice a week to maintain odor control.
6. LADIES’ SANITARY NAPKINS
Storing used sanitary napkins in the bathroom trash bin is a setup for a bathroom stink explosion. Believe it, this can throw off the odor of your bathroom, no matter what you use to clean your bathroom.
To prevent this, ladies, keep small plastic bags in the bathroom. Use these to securely dispose of the napkins by ensuring the mouth is tied tightly before tossing them in the bin. This way, you can be sure no odor will escape.
7. DRYER SHEETS

Dryer sheets can be used to deodorize almost anything in your home. The bathroom trash bin is no exception. Your bathroom trash is one of the main reasons why your bathroom may smell like that.
This odor can be hard to control unless you plan on changing the bag twice per day. However, there is another way to disguise the odor. Place 2 dryer sheets at the bottom of the bin. Do this before replacing a new bag. Your bathroom will smell great for days.
8. SCENTED BEADS IN THE BOWL
One strange way to keep that bathroom smelling awesome, especially in an emergency, is to do this simple trick. Pour scented beads into the bowl every morning.
This will keep your bathroom smelling fresh when you have visitors over. No one will ever figure out why your bathroom smells so amazing,g as there won’t be any visible air fresheners. They will think you are a pro at keeping a great-smelling bathroom.
9. TOILET PAPER ESSENTIAL OIL AIR FRESHENER
In every bathroom, there is always a roll of toilet paper. It doesn’t matter how poorly it is kept. Your toilet paper can make your bathroom smell much better than it does.
Before placing the roll on the rack, simply drop a few drops of essential oil in the center and place it on the rack. For as long as the toilet paper lasts, that’s how long your bathroom will keep the wonderful odor.
10. BLEACH WORKS
Pour scented bleach into your toilet bowl and let it sit overnight. The next morning, wash with a toilet brush and flush. I know it may sound a bit odd, but it will really make a difference if you are in the business of getting your bathroom smelling like it should.
To add to that, after cleaning the shower and the basin, feel free to add the scented bleach to a spray bottle and mist the surfaces. Before misting, dilute 1/4 cup of bleach with 3 cups of water. This will be safe for the surfaces.
11. REMOVE DAMP MATS AND TOWELS
Have you ever taken the time to smell a used bath towel? I have, and it’s not a wonderful smell. Most times, damp linens are left in the bathroom.
Shortly after, your bathroom will absorb the smell. If you want a great-smelling bathroom, ensure that only dry-cleaning linens are kept in the bathroom.
12. CLEAN DRAINS WITH SALT
Your bathroom drains collect everything that comes out of our mouths and that which comes off our bodies. Exactly how often do we clean them, or do we ever?
If our drains are not clean, then our entire bathroom will never be. In your bathroom drain are residues that send out nasty odors.
To clean your drain, pour salt down your drain. Let this sit for an hour, then turn on the tap on warm water to run for 3 minutes. The sodium and chloride in the salt will break down the grime in the drain. Leaving you feeling really proud of your bathroom.
