How would most of us survive without our dishwashers? Some of us actually don’t really mind doing the dishes with our hands and that’s really cool, but for those of us who can’t do that, we need our dishwashers to do it for us.

Can you even imagine doing the dishes by hand after large cooking, like a family cookout, BBQ, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day dinners, I am sure you can’t imagine that.

However, anything that is used frequently with water will attract sediments, which is the remains of the water.

if you must know, water contains calcium that when dried, will form a hard white particle. This is called limescale and can be very hard to remove.

That’s not your biggest problem, believe it or not, there are a lot of other disgusting things building up in your dishwasher’s drain.

These are hidden gunk and grime and they are in our dishwashers’ drain. This can cause the drain to be blocked, pushing back all that grime and gunk on the dishes, and when you run your washer all that bacteria come out on your dishes and onto your table.

NOPE, that’s will have to stop. Cleaning your dishwasher is the only way to be sure that your dishes are clean.

TO CLEAN THE DRAIN

Remove the racks, measure 1/2 cup baking soda, and 1 cup INDUSTRIAL VINEGAR in separate containers. Next, you will be needing a little pot of [hot water] but that’s for later so you can go ahead and set it on the stove.

Pour vinegar and baking soda down that little basket at the bottom of your dishwasher. Let it sit for 30 minutes. This is your dishwasher’s drain. NOTE: INDUSTRIAL VINEGAR IS ONLY USED FOR CLEANING PURPOSES, NOT FOR CONSUMPTION.

CLEANING THE INTERIOR

To clean the interior simply use Dawn Dish Soap on a sponge to clean the sides and bottom of the washer making sure every corner is lathered. Your hot water should be ready at this time.

POURING THE WATER IN THE LITTLE WHITE BASKET

Slowly pour the hot water in the white basket. The hot water will wash away the greasy residue that was broken down by the vinegar and baking soda.

CLEANING THE THE RACKS

Spray the racks with a mixture of 1/2 cup vinegar to 2tbsp of baking soda. This should loosen the stuck-on food so it will be easily washed.

You can use an old toothbrush to scrub away the gunk from the hidden corners. Replace the racks in their slots, turn on the washer, and allow it to rinse.

YOUR CLEAN DISHWASHER

With this simple dishwasher cleaning tip, you can be certain your dishwasher is clean and your drain flowing just right, but best of all. your dishes will be 100% clean for another delicious dinner.

Thanks for visiting, see you soon.

In olden days I prefer to call them the golden days. Pots were a treasured household item by any housewife. To have glowing pots showed that she was excellent at keeping her home in order.

If the pots were stained then she would be considered to be a failure at her duties. To keep the pots in excellent order ground coffee would be used to scrub the pots. Leaving them without a sign of usage.

7. BABY OIL FURNITURE POLISH

The vintage days had only wooden furniture. There was no plastic or glass furniture as we have now. The proper care of this wooden furniture was very important.

They were just as important as the very expensive pieces in our time. To keep these free from termites and looking great, baby oil was used to polish every single piece every day.

8. LEMONS

This highly beneficial fruit is not only for the fruit basket but it was used to make homes smell amazing and clean. It gets special attention due to its acidity.

This fruit was not only used for thirst-quenching lemonade but was used in the kitchen to score the burnt-on foods from pots and baking pans.

It was also used to remove rust from knives and any other rusty thing hanging around. This is also a source of bleach. Combine a mixture of lemon juice with salt and cover the stain.

9. DONT THROW AWAY THE ASH

In the good old days, every home had a fireplace. In these fireplaces, only natural wood was used to warm the house. When the wood was burnt out the ash was stored. This was then used for scoring purposes. Vintage women used the ash to score utensils and pots.

Simply add water to the ash to make a paste. Then rub it onto the item. Keep rubbing for 5 minutes then rinse. YOU CAN USE THE ASH FROM YOUR CHARCOAL GRILL.

Vintage furniture was made from solid wood. In modern days we now call them antiques. Have you ever wonder why their furniture seems to last a longer time than ours do.

Well, they used different cleaners and polish on theirs. One of the most common cleaners was  WAX SHOE POLISH.

Simply apply the polish on the piece using a soft dry lint-free rag. Allow drying for 10 minutes then rub with another clean dry rag. This is called shining. Continue until you have achieved the shine you are satisfied with.

12. REMOVING LIMESCALE FROM TEAPOTS/KETTLE

If you entered a vintage home the first aroma to hit your nose was the scent of tea or coffee brewing. There was always a kettle on the stove. Have you ever wondered how they cleaned their overused teapots?

They have this simple trick that they would do every other night before going to bed. They would pour CLEANING VINEGAR into the teapot/ kettle.

In the morning bright and early, they would pour out the loosen residues. The pot was then washed and place back on the stove for further tea making.

13. VINTAGE AIR FRESHENER

Can you tell me if 80 years ago there were luxurious air fresheners?? I really don’t think that in those days they had these types of luxury.

Even though they had none of these, homes smelled amazing. In vintage years before there were AC UNITS, the vintage folks would open their windows every morning.

This would allow the old air out and fresh air in. This simple action made their homes refresh at all times as no foul odor was trapped inside.

Maybe you could try this when the season is right and see for yourself the changes in the way your home smells.

14. NATURAL CLOTHES DRYER

The only way to dry your clothes in the olden days was by using a clothesline. The women would wash in a pan then proceed to the clothesline that was in the backyard.

Laundry was done early in the mornings to allow time for the midday sun to dry the clothes or before it rains.

A sturdy wire was used to make the clothesline and clothespins to hold the clothes on the line. This was to ensure the freshly washed clothes did not fall to the ground.

Doing this, made their clothes wrinkle and damage-free. A new way of thinking!!

15. CANDLE WAX FOR SHINNING WOODEN FLOORS

I told you about using a coconut brush to shine the floor. Well, if you want to enhance the shine, I mean really enhance it.

16. IRON ON THE STOVE

I love any stylish brand name clothes iron, but as you can see this was not so in vintage days. This iron is made from real iron and weighed approximately 2 pounds.

This was place on a stove or on activated charcoal and use when fully heated to iron any type of clothing.  Don’t underestimate this method of ironing, its still the best method until this very day.

As you can see, back in the days’ things were done more naturally with lots of love, time, and effort. I must say they did not have the fast going luxury as we do in modern days but they still kept their homes clean, so as you can clearly see the answer is yes.

THE GOLDEN DAYS WERE BETTER WHEN IT COMES TO GOOD HOUSE-KEEPING. Thanks for stopping by.

Doing your laundry can be a headache, whites are now yellow and the colored clothes are just not looking and smelling the way you would like them to at the end of the day.

Most time clothes need more attention than just what the washer is giving to them. Before you do your laundry, check to see what piece of linen needs special attention.

This is where Dawn Dish Soap comes in. Dawn is awesome at SOAKING, cutting tough grease and protein stains that come from food products such as meat. whether in the bathroom or the kitchen it’s the ideal product.

Try taking Dawn in the laundry room too. It’s just AMAZING. Here are some awesome ways you can use Dawn to do your laundry.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR DIRECT USE IN THE WASHER BUT PERFECT FOR CLOTHES THAT HAS TO BE PRESOAKED. Here is how to use Dawn dish soap for laundry purposes.

1. DAWN MAKE WHITES WHITER

Just washing your whites will not maintain their color. After a while, they will start taking on another color. No one likes wearing a white shirt that looks yellow. To make your white bright, refresh, and smelling great. try doing this brilliant trick.

Gather all your whites, Toss them in a bucket,  turn the tap on the warm water. To this add 1/4 cup liquid bleach. Then here comes the miracle worker, Dawn.

Pour Dawn into the bucket, the amount you pour should be based on the pile of laundry you have. You will be surprised at the amount of sud it forms so just a dab will do just fine.

This makes it easy for the washing process. Allow soaking for 10 minutes before washing in the washer. You can also do this process with soiled colored clothes.

2. PUT YOUR HANDS TO WORK IN A BUCKET

We all know about the vintage way of washing. This is a great method of washing especially for whites. Washing with your hands prevents clothes from damages like shrinking and stretching and best of all maintaining its color. This is the way the Amish make their clothes so beautiful and clean.

After soaking is complete. Get your hands in and start rubbing the linens together with the palm of your hands. Do this for a few minutes. Your whites should be looking much better by now.

PREFER TO USE A WASHER?

At this point, you can toss them in the washer (AFTER SOAKING). I must confess, I love the old vintage way but the washer is just faster.

You will not need to add any other detergent as this will cause excess sud. Simply toss the clothes in the washer. Do not pour Dawn directly in the washer unless measured carefully which should be 1 tablespoon for large loads.

Put the cycle on rinse. When that is done, place in the dryer. For best results, hang your whites on an outdoor clothesline to dry.

Sunlight makes whites stay white longer. Isn’t nature wonderful? This clever no dryer drying trick will not only make your clothes fresh and clean but will make your next electric bill way lower.

The summer is a perfect season for outdoor clothes drying. Why not give it a try.

Making your own germ-fighting solution is the best decision there you could make in times like these. Being a mom with pets running around. I knew I had to come up with something that was just as effective as any other bacteria-fighting product.

What could be better than making my own? Scrolling the web for sanitizing products was fruitless. I actually felt hopeless, but I was not about to give in.

My job entails dealing with people each day so there had to be something that could be used to replace Lysol that is just as effective, or even stronger.

The only thing I had on my shelves was RUBBING ALCOHOL and HYDROGEN PEROXIDE. These are known to be effective sanitizing products. Rubbing Alcohol can be used to sanitize countertops, door locks, and so too Hydrogen Peroxide.

Because these two products are considered to be fast-acting bacteria-fighting chemicals I know they were my way out of my situation.

Thinking of the smell, I thought I would use essential oils to add a pleasant odor, and also add to the bacteria-fighting aspect. Essential oils are proven to have bacteria-fighting abilities so adding them would allow two benefits instead of one.

PLEASE NOTE:  The products listed below are not intended to treat, diagnosed, or prevent any form of diseases whatsoever. It also will not replace medical advice or help.

After researching I was surprised to find the same solution, I had put together. Which is said to be one of the most effective Lysol replacement solutions.

I have read many articles on how to make your oven look like new again. However, the items introduce are very effective household products.

Vinegar is great at removing limescale or calcium build-up. Baking soda is also great for removing stains. Dawn dish soap as we know can work wonders in your home, and Borax is also a good cleaning product.

One thing no one told me was the truth about getting your burnt- out oven clean that has been used by dozens of tenants before I came into the picture.

I could not stand the smell from my oven whenever I used it. It was like something was always burning, setting off the fire alarm.

I decided to try all my oven cleaning products together and use what I have learned to bring my oven back to new. Come along on this adventure with me and find out the truth about cleaning a badly burnt oven.

MESSED UP OVEN

Be happy if your oven is not looking like this. Burnt-on food can form another layer becoming the structure of an oven. Just simply wiping won’t help. That would almost be impossible and would take a miracle if it was that simple. It will take a more aggressive approach to get this done.

Wiping with the dryer sheets alone was not going to remove the stubborn burnt-on food, that I realized after testing it out. I now realized that I had to take a more hands-on approach if I wanted my oven to look much better.

STEP 1

Combine a mixture of Dawn dish soap and Borax in a container and mix well to form a paste. Realizing that this was not smooth enough, a little warm water was added to turn it into a thick but runny substance. The oven was then laundered with the paste.

This was allowed to sit for 5 minutes. Maybe this wanted a longer time, approximately 20 minutes or more to get a better result. Timing is key when using any cleaning agent. You want to allow the chemical to do its job effectively.

STEP 2

Give the oven a few vigorous swipes using the dryer sheets, which you can see is removing some of the hard substance.

I then realized that I needed to add another scrubbing tool. A Scotch Brite which is stronger was brought in as the new scouring tool.

Hydrogen peroxide was added to the Scotch Brite directly. This should add to the strength of the other ingredients. Another lather was made.

This was allowed to soak in for another 10 minutes as the chemicals needed more time to penetrate and soften the hard residue.

STEP 3

It was time to get those oven racks looking like new. I wanted them to look exactly like those I saw on social media. While my concussion was resting in the oven.

The racks were scrub with the same mixture. By now I realized this was not a 5-minute oven cleaning task. however, determined, not to stop until I see some improvement. I was working my brain and my hands at the same time, but it was exciting.

STEP 4

To get to all the areas of the racks. I tossed them into the bathtub as a sink will not allow you to make a scrub without making a bigger mess in the kitchen.

Warm water was used to soak the racks as it would have loosened the stuck-on grease making it easier to clean. I COULD NOT WAIT TO SEE THE RESULT OF THIS!

STEP 5

Going back to the oven, it was ready to be cleaned to reveal the results. Using a warm damped rag. Wipe away the mixture.

Repeat the wiping process to ensure all the substance used to clean the oven is removed. By now the racks should be ready, so remove them from the bathtub rest them on a towel to drain. Its time to put the oven back together.

STEP 6

Place the racks back in, and your oven should be ready to go again. The truth is our cleaning products are great at what they do, but cleaning a badly burnt oven, your cleaning products are not miracle workers.

They can only get you thus far. My oven is not like new, but honestly, it took some sweat and a lot of patience. Everything is not perfect but my oven is looking much better than it was before.

Be creative when cleaning your oven. Everyone’s oven is messed up differently. Some with just a little grease, some with burnt-on food that is there for years, and some oven are fairly new ovens and can be cleaned with just a few wipes. When cleaning, timing is very important as we rush at times and the results we get are very disappointing.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Know your products and how they function will help you to know how, when, and where to use them. The truth is, to know the facts about your oven and what will work for you, the next time you clean your oven you won’t be disappointed if it doesn’t come out looking like it has never been used before.

At least with that thorough cleaning you gave your oven, there is no doubt it would be looking way cleaner than it was before. I hope these tips were helpful. SEE YOU SOON.

I fell crazy in love with Fels-Naptha a month ago. The story began a few months before that I had no clue what that soap was for. The only thing I knew was that the fancy name was very hard to pronounce and that’s it.

After doing some research on this mysterious soap I found out that it was a laundry detergent bar. This amazing bar soap came into existence in 1893  by Fels & Company and up to this very day marketed in the United States and Canada.

However, Fels-Naptha can be broken down into many forms of soap type and use for many purposes. It makes real sense to keep a bar or two of Fels -Napha around the home for its effectiveness and affordability. Fels- Naptha is classified as a safe household product, that’s why it’s so amazing.

Fels-Naptha has now become my favorite go-to laundry and household product as it makes me spend less and still get the best results, and to top it all, does whatever tasks it is used for very well. Here are 10 smart ways to use Fels-Naptha in your home.

1.TREAT POISON IVY

Use a bar of Fels-Naptha to rub on the affected area immediately after being exposed to poison ivy. This will remove the oil from the skin and prevent the rash.

However, it can still be used even after the trash has developed to lessen the outbreak of the rash. This bar soap should never leave your camping bag.

2.KILL BUGS

Fels-Naptha can be used as a powerful insecticide. Most gardeners will love to know about this amazing trick. Add  4 tablespoons of Fes-Naptha to a gallon of hot water.

Allow it to cool before pouring into a spray bottle. Use to spray on the plants. The bugs will not tolerate the chemicals and eventually dies.

3.REMOVE CHOCOLATE STAINS

Chocolate stains can be one of the most stubborn stains to remove. We get them all the time. Even if you are not a kid. This is why you should always have a bar of Fels-Naptha handy.

Simply rub a wet bar of Fels-Naptha on the stain then soak in water. To this, add Borax to help to speed up the process. let it soak for 20-30 minutes then wash as you would normally do.

 4.FRESHENS SMELLY GARBAGE DISPOSALS

Waking up in the morning, there was a nasty smell in my living room area. What could this be?

My bins were empty. Being a clean freak,  my home was supposably clean. This could not be happening!! Only to realize after a frantic investigation, it was revealed to me that my garbage disposal was the stinky culprit.

I rushed to my laundry room, grab hold of a bar of Fels-Naptha. I then use my kitchen knife to shave off peels of the soap into the garbage disposal.

I  allowed it to remain there, while I continue to use my sink. My home was no longer smelling awful thanks to Fels-Naptha.

5.REMOVE WINE STAINS

Using Fels-Naptha to remove wine stains is quite simple. All you need to do is dissolve the soap in a gallon of warm water. Add the stained item to the gallon of warm water and allow to soak for 20 -30 minutes. When that is all done, remove, and wash.

For stubborn wine stains. you may want to give it a long time to soak before washing but you can be sure that Fel-Naptha will remove that stain.

6.REMOVE BABY FORMULA STAINS

I love the smell of babies, but not when there is dried up formula spills on their clothes. These days, babies’ clothing has a high resale value so keeping them in excellent order should be a high priority.

If you happen to have a few stained baby clothing lying around, then do this…First, rub the clothing with a wet Fels-Naptha bar.

Proceed to pour by soaking in  1 gallon of warm water then dissolve 1/2 cup of Borax in the water. Let it sit for 40 minutes then wash. Now they are ready for the market or simply ready to be placed back on your little bundle of joy!!!

7.USE FELS-NAPTHA FOR WHITER WHITES

To be honest, I am a fan of bleach, but whenever I used it my eyes and sinus hurt badly. I have also noticed that my precious bleach was turning my whites into yellow. If bleach is not used correctly it can actually leave holes in your clothes.

That would certainly be a laundry disaster. You can use Fels-Naptha as a bleach substitute, with no allergy reactions. Simply grate a cup of Fels -Naptha and dissolve in warm water.

Use a bucket or your sink to soak the item in for an hour, or overnight will be best if you have the time to spare.  For the best results, remove and wash as you normally would.

8.GROUT CLEANER.

It is now easy to remove grout from your tiles using only Fels-Naptha. Simply use the corner of the bar of Fels-Naptha to wipe on the grout. Allow resting for 20 minutes.

9.CLEANS TOILETS

To remove that gunky smell from your toilet. Simply melt a bar of Fels-Naptha in 6 cups of hot water. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to the mixture.

Pour into the bowl and wash with a toilet brush. Give it a flush and await the wonders you will see. Your toilet will be sparkling clean and smell fresh.

I am very skeptical about my kitchen and my greasy stove air vent was becoming a bother to me. My only solution was Scrubbing Bubbles.

It was able to get into the hard to reach areas and melt away that grease build-up. After spraying, use an old toothbrush with a few old dryer sheets to strap onto the top of the toothbrush. Use this to wipe away the now runny grease from your stove vent, and Tada! no more greasy vent.
