Deep cleaning your bathroom doesn’t have to take the entire day. All you need is 20 minutes to have a clean, fresh, and organized bathroom. These bathroom cleaning hacks will walk you through the steps from start to finish. You’ll see how simple this was all along. Let’s dive right in!

Why Deep Clean:

It’s important to deep clean your bathroom at least once per month to focus on hidden areas and stain buildup that are the main culprits of bad odors in the bathroom. Just cleaning the toilet and shower is not going to give you that clean, fresh feel when you enter your bathroom.

Dust, soap scum, and gunk you have not even seen are lingering, making your bathroom have this heavy ambiance. That’s why we deep clean.

How to Deep Clean Your Bathroom (20-Minute Step-by-Step Guide)

#1 Gather Your Cleaning Supplies:

Decide what you’ll be using to deep clean your bathroom. Some of my favorite bathroom cleaners are white vinegar, Clorox bathroom cleaner with bleach, Pine-Sol, baking soda for whitening, Dawn dish soap, and at least three cleaning cloths and a scrubber; this could be a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or a simple kitchen sponge.

Having a roll of paper towels on hand is well advised, as this absorbs water really fast.

Now let’s start cleaning!

#2. Clearing the Area:

First, remove the rugs and the shower curtain, if there is one, and the trash. Toss these in the wash. Our aim is to have everything clean when doing a bathroom deep clean. Remove everything from the countertops. The surfaces to be cleaned should be clear or shifted to one side.

#3. Clean the Shower:

Use the Cloralen Disinfectant  Bathroom Cleaner to mist the shower walls and tub (do not use on the showerhead and faucet). Next, mist inside the toilet.

Note:

If the Cloralen bathroom cleaner is too strong, omit that and grab the Dawn and vinegar. Combine 1 cup vinegar with 1 tablespoon Dawn in a spray bottle and mist the shower/bathtub, toilet, and sink.

I always let the sink stay till last, as I will be using this to rinse my cleaning cloths if needed.

Wash the shower starting from the top of the walls downward. By now, the treatment should have loosened the stains and soap scum on the grout.

Use a Broom: If reaching and bending are too much, grab a clean broom and scrub those walls. Use a clean mop for the shower or bathtub floor. This will make cleaning way easier and less painful.

Next, rinse the shower with warm water. Dry the shower with paper towels to avoid watermarks. To clean the showerhead, check out this article.

#4. Cleaning the Toilet:

While the inside of the bowl is being soaked, clean the outside of the toilet with the DIY bathroom cleaner. Using a cloth, wipe down the outer parts of the toilet.

Don’t forget to wipe where the screws are. Use a clean, damp cloth to give it a second wipe. Now, wash underneath the rim of the seat, then give the bowl a quick swish with the brush.

#5. Cleaning the Sink

Move over to the sink and clean it with the same bathroom cleaner. Use a clean, damp cloth to remove the soapy residue until it is clean. Mist the sink and faucet, wash, rinse well, and dry.

#6 Shining the Clean Surfaces:

Now that you have cleaned these areas, it’s time to make them glow. To do this, simply mist with Mr. Clean Freak Multi-Purpose Cleaner. Use this for the shower walls, faucet, outer toilet, and sink. It’s just amazing!

#7. Cleaning the Mirror:

To clean the mirror, wipe it with a clean, damp cloth, then mist it with Windex mirror cleaner and dry it with a dry, lint-free cloth. Cleaning the mirror from top to bottom will give you better results.

Now, replace the soap and everything you had taken from the countertop. Make sure to toss expired or finished item containers. Put everything where it belongs. Make sure the towels are folded and placed neatly in their places.

Return the shower curtain.

#8. Cleaning the floor:

The floor is the last place to clean when deep-cleaning a bathroom. For this, use a wet mop and mist the floor with vinegar (ONLY). Start mopping from behind the toilet outwards.

If you have a bucket, rinse the mop, squeeze almost all the water out, and give the floor a second wipe. Allow the floor to completely dry before returning the rugs.

Extra Tips:

  • Use a scented trash bag to reduce bad odors
  • Empty trash bags as often as possible…preferably every other day
  • Crack the bathroom door after taking a shower to prevent moisture… How to Keep Your Shower Smelling Fresh:
  • Do  not leave or store dirty clothes and damp towels in the bathroom
  • Pull back the shower curtain after taking a shower to allow the shower to dry

To make your bathroom smell good. Try adding some fragrance of your choice.
